"Pithos" is almost the same wine as COS' Cerasuolo di Vittoria, save for an important distinction; the Nero D'Avola/Frappato blend ferments and ages in clay amphorae, thus losing DOCG status but gaining cult appeal -- as well as minerality and texture -- from these ancient aging vessels. In fact, the estate was one of the contemporary wine scene's earliest adopters of amphorae, influencing their neighbors like Vino di Anna as well as countless producers on the mainland. Apart from strawberry, violet, and pomegranate on the nose, the wine showcases some funky, bretty aromas that will appeal to the naturalistas amongst us.
