In Italy's Veneto region, plantings of Cabernet Franc are more common than one would expect. Unfortunately, most are vinified in an indifferent, highly-extracted style. Calalta chooses a more subtle approach, with an end product that is lively and low-alcohol, with a lot of dark fruit and spice on the nose, and a little funk. Chilling it down is enjoyable but by no means required.
