Baptiste Cousin Dynamitage 2016: $34

Olivier Cousin is equally famous for producing elegant and refined natural wine that has elevated Anjou's status globally, and for thumbing his nose at the AOC's regulations and governing body, which, he feels, promote "industrial" wine. His son, Baptiste, has taken over production of the family's Gamay vines, and the result, "Dynamitage," is fresh in the mouth, with blue and red fruit, violets and tea. Bottled without sulfur or any additives, it has a little natural funk but shows structure and a clean finish that defy and redefine the natural wine category.

André Bonhomme Viré-Clessé 2015 375ML: $15, $13.50

Viré-Clessé, an appellation comprising two northern villages in the Mâconnais, compares with its neighbor Pouilly-Fuissé in quality, while its lack of name-brand recognition keeps pricing reasonable. Domaine André Bonhomme is amongst the top producers in the AOC, and this weighty offering from old vines shows hazelnut, pineapple, and honey.
Paitin "Serra” Barbera d'Alba 2014: $21, $18.90

The Paitin Estate produces Barbera in the Serraboella vineyard, one of Alba's standout sites, and one usually reserved for Nebbiolo. Dry and medium-bodied, Serra's aromas of ripe red cherry and mineral complement its soft tannins.

Van Volxem Saar Riesling 2015: $26, $23.40

Van Volxem Saar Riesling 2015: $26, $23.40

Pretty, friendly, and easy-to-like, Van Volxem's wonderful acidity brings out the nuance of the fruit and lends freshness and vigor to the palate, while the mineral background throws its aromas of pear, white peach, nectarine, and apple into high relief.
Lieu Dit Sauvignon Blanc 2016: $25, $22.50

Lieu Dit's Santa Barbara Sauvignon Blanc embodies white Bordeaux's richness and depth, Sancerre's crisp minerality, and California's aromatic, fruity tones.
Jean Louis Chave Côtes du Rhône Mon Coeur 2015: $25, $22.50

An entry-level wine from a world-class maker, Mon Coeur is a négociant project sourced from organic vineyards, and is more than half from Jean-Louis’ own fruit. Meaty and smoky on the nose, the palate is full of dark plum and blackberry fruit, smooth tannins, and earthy undertones.
